Music video: Effects

Effects
Filter
One of our first ideas for an effect was to put a dimming/ sepia tone onto the image of the video. We felt this would fit well with the genre of music and also the mood and lyrics of the song.
Split-Screen
We have come up with the idea of using a split screen to contrast some of the characters good and bad memories of the relationship.
Coverage
We are planning to get enough coverage in production so that in post-production we can make enough cuts and transitions to keep the visuals interesting.

Basic Idea: Music Video

Basic Idea
Our idea is conventional to the indie pop genre. We are going to be using a narrative to run alongside the music instead of a performance based video. This is common in the genre of music and fits better with the type of music that the video is being played with.

Youtube Inspiration

Whilst looking on youtube for inspiration I came across Lana Del Rey's music video for 'Video Games' this gave us a huge amount of help in narrowing down our ideas for our video and ensuring we have an original twist and therefore relate to the new, fresh feel of Indie Pop.
The main points we were able to take from this video were;

  • The female performance- As the majority of our footage will be of Scarlett (our female performer)
  • Lana's vintage and hipster style- This is the style that we want to portray within our video as this is most convention for the indie genre.
  • The filters use throughout the video- This idea is definitely a theme that we would like to carry out throughout our video and a strong way to break away from the standard conventions.
  • The genre- Although the genre is not identical to Barely Love You Too I believe it close enough so it allows us to use the ideas Lana has put within the video.
These are some the specific filters we liked;

Schedule

We have used our lesson time to discuss what times will be best for us to film.
We are all free to film on Wednesday 17th October. However, as this is a school day we all have different time tables which has caused a few issues.
We have discussed amongst ourselves and with the actors which lessons we have got during this day and which times will be best to film.
Scarlett, Chloe, Martha and Andrea are free to film throughout the whole day.
However, Elena has got a lesson during first period (9:00-10:30am) and James has got a lesson during second period (10:50- 12:20pm).
As we are filming in the centre of Cambridge which takes 15 minutes to travel to via shuttle bus, Elena should arrive at approximately 10:45-11:00am and James at 12:45-1pm depending on the shuttle times. If a shuttle bus is not available at these times, buses are accessible from the top of long road which take roughly the same amount of time to get into town.
As for our footage we will mainly need Scarlett, we can use the morning to film coverage of her performance. We can then use the afternoon/evening to shoot coverage of the couple and the footage of cambridge.

Carol Vernallis analysis: Marina and the diamonds

I used Carol Vernallis's theory on music videos to analyse a song from the indie pop genre, Marina and the diamonds: Prima Donna.
